
Sandra O’Malley is an experienced coaching consultant with a background in medical law and healthcare risk management. As a defence medical lawyer, Sandra represented her healthcare clients before the Irish courts system and frequently worked in partnership with key personnel in the management of serious adverse incidents of both a clinical and non-clinical nature. She was also involved in the development and delivery of clinical risk management services to include providing clinical risk management advice, undertaking clinical risk management reviews and delivering medico-legal lectures.
In 2007, Sandra joined the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (“RCSI”) where she established the role of Head of Legal Affairs. In managing the legal function of the organisation, Sandra provided legal advice on a broad range of issues to include undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training, research, governance, international projects and all other ancillary organisational and commercial matters required by an international organisation, such as RCSI, engaging in a wide breath of activities and with a staff in excess of 800 people.
During the course of her legal career, Sandra has proven to be a skilled negotiator with excellent communication skills. She has also developed strong skills in conflict management and resolution. In addition to holding a higher diploma in healthcare risk management, Sandra also holds a diploma in leadership and is an executive coach. She is an experienced coaching consultant with a keen interest in the development of emotional intelligence and is a certified emotional intelligence assessor. As a coaching consultant, Sandra delivers one to one coaching and facilitates group workshops and training. She is particularly interested in human factors which she believes play an important role in improving safety in healthcare for patients and staff and which, given her background, is a subject about which Sandra is very passionate. Sandra is a member of the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.
